Laser Cladding

Technically speaking, laser cladding is the process of depositing super alloys to substrate surfaces to introduce special properties. What this means is that a variety of metallic coatings, such as stainless steel, bronze or aluminum, can be applied to the surface of another part to enhance its resistance to heat, wear, corrosion and other environmental hazards.

How Does Laser Cladding Work?

A wire, strip or powdered metal material is combined with a laser which melts it and causes it to bond with the surface material it is being applied to.

Why Use Laser Cladding? REFURBISH WORN OUT PARTS Laser cladding can refurbish the surface of parts worn down by abrasion or corrosion. This extends the life expectancy and increases its usefulness. PREPARE PROTOTYPE PARTS Ready prototype parts for testing and analysis without subjecting them to casting or other costly procedures reserved for production.

ENHANCE PRODUCTION PARTS Introduce properties such as resistance to wear, corrosion and heat. Protect critical and high wear parts whose failure could result in damage or costly downtime. BETTER THAN WELDING Laser cladding requires less heat and therefore results in less distortion. Additionally, laser cladding is not limited to wire formats, is more precise and decreases dilution.
